In recent years, Context has presented all of Beethoven’s Piano Trios, all of his Sonatas for Violin and Piano, and three of his Cello Sonatas; this program completes our survey, with the 1st and 5th Sonatas for Cello and Piano. Composed twenty years apart, both works are a joyride of high spirits and daring instrumental brilliance. With charming pieces for piano ‘four-hands’: two pianists snuggled together at Context’s peerless Rosenberger piano from Beethoven’s time.
