Co-Founder and Artistic Director Sergiu Luca has performed as soloist with the leading orchestras of Europe, the United States, and Latin America. His recording of the complete unaccompanied violin works of Bach, the first rendering on an original instrument, made a sensation, and he has subsequently recorded music of Bartok, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Janacek, and Bolcom. He holds the Starling Chair of Classical Violin at Rice University.

Brian Connelly is acclaimed as a pianist of exceptional range and accomplishment in both historical and modern repertoires. He was recently featured in the Carnegie Hall series Making Music in a tribute to composer William Bolcom. Recent performances include concertos, recitals, chamber music on modern and historical instruments, and several performances of the complete Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jesus by Messiaen. Mr. Connelly is Artist Teacher of Piano at Rice University.

Lorenzo Coppola received a Diploma in early clarinets from The Hague Royal Conservatory. He plays regularly with ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, La Petite Bande, Orchestra of the 18th Century, Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and many others. He has taught in international early-music workshops in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, and is Professor of Early Clarinet at the Early Music School in Venice. |
Violist Joan DerHovsepian became a member of the Houston Symphony in 1999, after serving two seasons as Principal Violist of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. As a member of the Everest String Quartet, Ms. DerHovsepian concertized throughout the U.S. and Canada and won top prizes in the Banff and Fischoff competitions. She has been an instructor in Viola Orchestral Repertoire at The Shepherd School of Music since the fall of 2001.

 Bass-baritone Timothy Jones has appeared as soloist with the Houston, Charlotte, Shreveport, Colorado Springs, Laredo, and San Antonio symphony orchestras, and has performed numerous roles with the Michigan Opera Theatre, Lake George Opera Festival, Opera Idaho, Shreveport Opera, and San Antonio Opera. This season he made debuts with the Dallas Symphony and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. |
Michael Kannen has appeared as soloist with orchestra, as guest with the Ridge, Mendelssohn, Colorado, and Franciscan String Quartets, and with ensembles such as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Berkshire Bach Society. He was a founding member of the award-winning Brentano String Quartet, performing with that group for seven years on major concert stages throughout the world. |
 A native of Rumania, violinist Cristian Macelaru was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy, where he was concertmaster of both the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Arts Academy Symphony Orchestra. He received the Bachelor’s degree in violin at the University of Miami, where he also studied conducting and composition, and was the concertmaster of Miami Symphony Orchestra. |
 Canadian violist Max Mandel was a member of the Metro Quartet for six years, an experience which forged his dedication to chamber music. Max’s current group affiliations include the FLUX Quartet, Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, the Caramoor Virtuosi, and the Metropolitan Museum Artists. This season’s highlights include several appearances at the Smithsonian Institution using instruments from their famous collection of Stradivari. |
 A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School, Allen Whear was the recipient of an ITT International Fellowship and studied in Amsterdam with Anner Bylsma. He has played with the New York Collegium, Musical Antiqua Köln, Concert Royal, and the Maggio Musicale in Florence. He is Associate Principal Cellist with Tafelmusic Baroque Orchestra and Artistic Director of Baltimore’s Pro Musica Rara.
