As an audience member, you can expect a lot from us.
You can expect CONTEXT to be ahead of the curve. No other organization presents concerts like ours, putting music ‘in context’ with instruments and performance styles appropriate to each era of music. No other ensemble can move so fluidly between, say, Bach on harpsichord and baroque strings, Beethoven on an early-19th century Graf piano, Brahms on a late-19th century Bösendorfer piano and romantic-era string instruments, and Bolcom on modern instruments.
You can also expect CONTEXT’s programs to be intriguing and enlightening. Every program explores connections between composers, and offers insights into their works. Best of all, you can expect to be moved at the emotion and power that music can express when played with understanding and imagination.
Your expectations mean a lot to us, and challenge us to present unusual and meaningful concerts. So we’re excited to tell you about plans for our next season!
CONTEXT’s 13th Season is titled MUSIC IN THE CONTEXT OF TIME. This season, CONTEXT presents two perspectives on music drawn from over 350 years of repertoire. Three concerts focus on important decades -- the 1820's, the 1880's and the 1920's -- revealing the rich variety and conflict of styles during each of these innovative periods.
Three concerts focus on specific instruments during a century of their most dramatic development: the Century of the Violin (1650-1750), the Century of the Piano (the 19th century), and the Century of Winds (the 20th century). Each program explores the evolution of instrumental style across a broad span of time.
And as always, each CONTEXT concert features stylistically-informed performances on historically-accurate keyboard, string and wind instruments appropriate for each musical era.
All concerts are on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm.
Please join us for our Thirteenth Season, as we take this look into MUSIC IN THE CONTEXT OF TIME.
